Bone broth is really easy to cook.
Crucial for the effectiveness is the long cooking of at least 24 hours, better 48 hours in connection with apple cider vinegar or lemon juice.
So-called slow cookers, which use comparatively little electricity and prevent burning, are therefore particularly suitable for the preparation.
Now we come to the preparation method:
Place 1 kg of mixed bones with joint bones and cartilage in a sufficiently large pot and cover with water.
Add 3 tablespoons of naturally cloudy apple cider vinegar or lemon juice
bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer gently for at least 24 hours, the longer the better.
If necessary, add water in between so that nothing burns.
Suitable vegetables, garlic or herbs can optionally be added 1 - 2 hours before the end of the cooking time.
At the end of the cooking time, the water should be reduced significantly, so refill nothing more.
Pass the broth through a sieve and let it cool, the cooled broth should have a gelatinous consistency.
Depending on the purpose of feeding, remove the fat layer on the broth.
The finished broth can only be kept in the fridge for a few days.
What do I actually do with the boiled bones?
The cooked bones must never be fed. They can splinter and cause life-threatening injuries to the esophagus, stomach, and intestines, as well as bone feces and intestinal obstructions.
However, you can confidently rinse detached meat and added vegetables to remove bone fragments and feed them to your dog.
Bone broth in stock?
Due to the wide range of possible uses, it is always worth having a stock of bones in stock at home.
It is best to fill some of the slightly cooled broth into ice cube molds and freeze them.
When the broth is frozen, you can pour the ice cubes into a suitable container and remove them individually if necessary.
